This is a Halloween Pennant Dragonfly. It's one of my favorites. I love the colors and details. It is the 1st one I have seen this year so I got super excited.

This is an Eastern Pondhawk. I think this one is a male. I love watching and photographing dragoflies. Maybe that is becauese they are carnivores .. and good predators at that. This quote is from the link above:
{they} "... can take down insects as large as themselves. They will even eat members of their own species. The males and females of this species differ in color. Adult males are a powdery blue with a yellow-tipped abdomen, while females are bright green with some dark brown/black spots on the abdomen. Young males are also green, like females, with rings on the abdomen, but they will change color as they mature."
i am sure glad the are small .. can you immpage a 200 lbs version.

Time for something a little different. This is a Striped Horse Fly. I guess it's confused .. this was the top of my car on a very hot and humid day.

This is another skimmer .. a Red Saddlebags. This is a new one for me. I am sure I have seen one before, but I do not recall photographing one. I love the wings.
