This is an Eastern Towhee. The App I use to identify birds calls this bird a ‘large sparrow’. It has much more color than most sparrows, especially this male. They have the black head and contrasting white breast.
We attempted to capture a better photo, but with the position of the sun, and our location on the trail, made this a difficult shot. Teresa took one of these, and I took the other two. I played with the edit to try and enhance it, but I may have made it worse.
A very cool bird.
