Mindfulness

I just about missed this Robin. They are not as quick to fly away, and don't make a lot of noise. I guess this is how to practice mindfulness.

Hiking, Sanity And Nature

Adjustments.jpeg

Other than my morning workouts, hiking while photographing nature is my passion and my sanity. I get a great deal of satisfaction from this time with nature while shooting photos of wildlife and landscapes. It can be very raw, drawing me closer to the earth. It is accompanied with this inter-peace that is better a drug. Even more ... its mostly free.

Perhaps there will come a day in the distant future when I cannot take long hikes. I hope that is many years from now. In fact, I hope that never comes. If it does, I will not stop hiking or taking photos. In that reality I see myself pulling out some future version of an iPad and walking through my 85,000+ photo library while I experience the same emotions that I do today when I hike with Teresa as we surround ourself in nature. This is how life should be ..

In the flow

I love long exposure photography. When I take LE photos on my DLSL, it takes a while to setup and capture a great image. This photo was taken with my iPhone using the ‘Live Photo” feature. The output of that is a long exposure photo to looks great. It’s expecially effective with fast moving water, like this shot.

Moments: Capture.Relive.Charish

FullSizeRender.jpg

There are days when I get lost in photographs from a time past. I know this was taken just a few weeks ago, but I can mentally go there and get lost in those moments. This photo takes me back to Yosemite and a walk we took there.

Our family just expereinced a different type of moment as my son and his wife gave birth to their second child. We think of all of our daughter-in-laws as our daughters, and I am aware that she did all the work. We were all absorbed in the moment on Monday, as we awaited his safe arrival. This is our seventh grandchild, and the first grandson. The moment of his arrival, like each of the other six, has been special moments in our life. Teresa and I are so excited, as we always are. We have another one due to arrive later this year. That will be number eight. We love every one of them. They bring smiles, tears, happiness, and joy.

Moments in time, both places and events, are a big part of the human experience. We long for those moments that endure in our memories. Capturing those moments in video or photos enhances the moment, and brings our memories to life. Maybe that is what attracts me to photography, even more than the vivid colors, shapes and geometry.

Enjoy every moment ... life is too short to miss one.

What is that app anyway ...

BBF648CE-D114-44B3-BF7B-6ABA2FF03068.JPG

I process all of our photography on my iPad. Once in a great while, I have to do something on my Mac, but normally I can do it on an iPad. I have a Mac Mini that is powerd, and ‘connected’ 24/7. Its primary function is to backup all of my photos as they are added to my photo library. This happens regardless of where I am located, as long as I have access to the internet, or when I reconnect to the internet. Teresa’s photos are backed up separately, but using the same process. My PSA: Always make a backup of your important documents and photos!!

Frequently, I like to download and use various camera / photo apps to see the filters and cool effects they provide. Teresa calls it ‘playing’, I call it ‘testing’. 🤔 I enjoy seeing how I can use apps to enhance a photograph. This was one of those days where I was playing ... I mean testing.

I created todays photo using the app  ‘PhotoFunia’. Here is how it worked: I selected a scene, then the photo I wanted to use, and the app crunches for a few seconds, and inserts my photo into the photo they provide. It’s really cool, and that easy.  What do you think?

If you want to try it yourself, you can get the app on the  AppStore, but it’s also available for Android and other operating systems. You can visit them at their website too. I am not sponsored by the creator of the app .. just sharing for creativity’s sake.

Enjoy!
