When I am photographing wildlife, It usually feels like I am hunting ... I normally have to find the wildlife.

This Scrub-Jay was different. Yes, we were driving the scenic route in Kolob Canyons. I had pulled over to take a photo of the mountains. Before I opened the door to get out of the car, I looked and saw this beautiful bird hopping around. I photographed him in mid-hop (in the photo above). He proceed to hop even closer to the car. I guess he wanted to be photographed.

I guess sometimes the bird comes to you.

The Flamingo

IMG_0108.JPG

I really don’t know much about the Flamingo. I know that they are the national bird of the Bahamas. I have heard that in Ancient Rome, their tounge was considered a delicacy. This really does not make me hungry. They are certainly unqiue and beautiful.

Woodpecker on the hunt

FullSizeRender.jpg

A woodpecker, on the hunt for insects. That constant pounding would give me a headache, but it is a way of life for the woodpecker. The tapping is not just how they hunt, it is also how the woodpecker excavate nest cavities in trees.

This was taken early one morning at Kiser Lake State Park. It was late in the fall, and the mist coming off the lake was beautiful.

Disturbing the ducks

FullSizeRender.jpg

As you walk along the bike path near the Great Miami River, you will often find ducks and turtles in the algae. These two were just trying to find some quiet time ... then I showed up with my camera.

I understand the value of some peace and quiet, away from the ‘busy life’, so I took a few pictures, and left them to enjoy the quiet time they were seeking. Try it!

PSA: Watch for the deer ..

FullSizeRender.jpg

I took this photo in Logan County, just north and east of Bellefontaine, Ohio. I was actually in my car and had enough time to take the picture while we had this little face off.

It was this time of year when the deer are most active. When you see one, there is likely more! In this case, I saw two, then a little later several more. Due to changing food supplies, the rut,  and other factors, deer are extremely active in October and November ... drive safely!
