Eaglets?

We have been watching this pair for several years now. I am sure we have babies in the nest, but no photos yet. These photos are shot from a football field away .. well, not actually but that far away. I get really excited about birds of prey, especailly eagles.

A Break From The Children

Adjustments.jpeg

I took this photo a couple weeks back. I am still trying to get a good photo of this Bald Eagle but getting the camera to Focus at this distance continues to be a challenge. The tree where she is located is about a football field away, and focusing on her in this tree continues to be tough. This shot is not too bad .. just not up to my expecations.

She is keeping an eye on the nest where she has two babies. I thought there was three but I can confirm two now. I guess she needed a break from the children. At this stage, they eat and grow .. a lot.

Juvenile Eagle

Adjustments.jpeg

We were driving between a couple of our favotite winter hiking sites when we spotted this large bird flying overhead. It took me a few minutes to identify it as a juvenile Bald Eagle. They don’t get the white head until they are about 4 years old. The local couple that nest near our home have had 5 young eaglets over the last three years. I am not sure this is one of those, but it very exciting to see her flying overhead.

The parent eagles are nesting now (as you can make out in the second photo). Yes, that is a full size eagle on that nest.

The final photo is one of the parents in a tree near the nest. The mate is in the nest.

Getting big ...

FullSizeRender.jpg

For several months, I have been watching this pair of eagles create a family. For many reasons, you don’t want to get too close, but when possible, I have snapped photos from about 100 to 150 yards. I have really been careful to avoid creating any stress for them.

For the last few days, the eaglets have been perched on this tree. I don’t know if they have taken their first flight yet, but if not, it will be soon. They are eating an amazing quantity of food by now, and Mom and Dad are likely spending all day hunting to keep them growing. Before long, they will be off hunting on their own.

It is a beautiful sight. I have seen Mon and Dad out hunting a few times, and have taken a few photos, but this photo excited me most. I think need to name them:).
