This Never Gets Old

We have been photographing these two Bald Eagles for years. The firat photo I took of one of them was in May of 2019. I remember how excited I was. We had seen them flying in the area for a few weeks and there he was, in a tree south of me.

I was starding at the exact same spot as when I shot that photo back in 2019. This time I saw one flying down the river approaching our location. I photographed her as she approached and flew over our heads. It was beautiful.

The second eagle soon followed but instead of flying over us, he circled and landed in a tree just over river from our location. I shot the top photo last, really close to where he was perched. What a cool experience. This never gets old .. it is exciting every time I see them.

The Majestic Eagle

We were hiking along the Great Miami River at Farrington Reserve when I saw a large bird fl;uy by just on the other side of the treeline. I thought it may be an eagle but I could not get a good view before it was out of sight. We walked a little further and as we approached the bridge over the river I saw this Bald Eagle. A few seconds later a second eagle flew out of the tree below this one. The pair both flew off. I am a bit of a raptor nerd.

Young Eagles

This is one of many Juvenile Bald Eagle we saw this week. We were hiking at Grand Lake St Marys and enjoyed seeing so many of these beautiful, raptors. I added a second photo below.

Shift Change And Juveniles

We had a great experince while at Grand Lake St Marys this past week. There is an eagle nest just off of State Route 127 that we always stop at to photograph. We actually drove up to the lake with the goal of photographing the parents at this nest.

When we arrived we had a hard time seeing anything in the nest. The first photo is what we finally were able to capture. One parent, in the nest.

We didn't leave .. and I am so glad we didn't. After about ten minutes there was four eagles flying around us. As they started circling the area, we didn't notice right away, but there was three juvenile eagles, and one mature eagle. The mature eagle was one of the parents, and this one landed in the nest. The juvenile eagles landed in a couple trees near the nest.

The last photo is of both parents in the nsst. They swapped parent duties. I only shared two photos of juvenile eagles in the trees. I am not sure why, but I had trouble getting a good focus on the younger eagles. We are guessing these are from from a previous nesting season, maybe last year. It is about four to five years before eagles mature, the white appears in their head and they find a mate.

After the swap, the one parent and two of the juvenile eagles flow off. One of the juveniles and the parent in the nest were left there until the next shift change.

What an amazing experince.

Favorite Tree?

I think we have found this eagles favorite spot. We have seen a hawk or this eagle in this same line of trees most of the days of any week. This is maybe my best eagle photo in a long time. I am luck to photography them frequently and I love this photo.
