One More

This version of Mr. Ugly is a Black Vulture. We don't see as many of them around here, but this one was making it like home.

They Are Back … In Black

Last winter we had a large number of Black Vultures spend most of the winter on the local bike trail. I think they like the cat food that locals feed the cats.

They are back .. A large 'wake' of these black vultures was flying overhead, in the trees and on the trail today.

They do call it a wake of vultures.

So Many Vultures

Over the weekend we went to a birthday party for one of our granddaughters. There is a creek through the woods near their home. While standing on the deck, I notices a large number of black vultures .. and I mean LARGE number. I tried to count them but there was just too many. I shot these two photos as we were heading home. Just a small sample.

Vultures and Cats

This is a really interesting. For several weeks these Black Vultures have been hanging out in Piqua near us. Some days there may be a dozen or more. They really have not come this far north very often, but that is not holdling true this winter.

Now the story: This part of the bike trail is home to a large number of cats. There is a lady that feeds them all the time. As it turns out, the vultures like cat food (and maybe cats). They really go for the cat food. We talked to the cat lady yesterday and she said they don't eat the dry food so she stays nearby until the cats finish any of the wet cat foods.

We have seen them eat the dry food .. so she is also a vulture lady.

Black Vulture Party?

We were out walking the puppy when we saw this wake of black Black Vultures. They are not as large as the Turkey Vultures that are more common around here. In fact, we rarely see this this far north, but there they were.
