Falcon On A Wire

The American Kestrel is the most common falcon in North America (Source: Wikipedia). This is the 1st American Kestrel have seen in at least 15 months. The funny thing is that I saw him abouit 50 feet from the place where I saw the last one.

He was in a tree until I got where I could take a photo, then he took off and landed on this wire. Good thing I had the right lens for a long shot.

Pole Hopping

Teresa and I were driving back home after a hike. I had just commented that we have not seen a Hawk for a while, when we suddently saw this Red Tail Halk on this power pole. Teresa stoppped in the middle of the road and I got out and shot this photo.

It didn’t stop there. We moved closer, but he took off. We watched as he flew to the next pole. We slowly moved closer, only to watch him fly off to the next pole once again. This little game was repeated three times, and would have continued if we were wiling to play. We left him to have some peace. Clearly it was some kind of game 😳🤣.

Free Flying

As we drove into the Nature Preserve parking lot, we saw this Broad-winged Hawk making her entry as well. She parked in a tree across the field, where I was able to capture a couple photos. The best photo may be this one, as she grew nervous about our cameras and took flight to a more secure, and hidden location.

We have not been out to make a video for a few days. Teresa sprained her knee, and I have been getting in some extra biking with one of my sons. I hope we can get out sometime this week.

Lunch To Go!

I saw this scene play out twice yesterday. The first time, I did not see anything in the grasp of the hawks talons. The second time, captured in the above photo, the Red-Tailed Hawk appears to have caught a snake. She is being chased by a red-winged blackbird. The smaller bird chased the hawk for a long ways. That was the exactly situation when I saw the other hawk .. being chased by a Red-winged Blackbird. Ouch to go, anyone?

This is My Lunch!

Teresa and I drove up to Grand Lake Saint Marys this week. While we were hiking along the west side of the lake, we saw this Cooper’s hawk take down a small bird. Natures cycle of life, I guess.

Shortly after I took this photo, she flew off, with lunch. It was almost more than she could carry, but she made it.
