Red And Black Elegance

This is a Red-bellied Woodpecker and I love the colors and the contrast. So beautiful.

Pole Hopping

This Red-tailed Hawk spent some time playing a game of pole hop with us.. We would stop in the road to take a photo, he would take off, fly a couple poles down the road, land, rinse and repeat.. Very funny.

My What A Long Beak You Have

I am so happy that Teresa spotted this Northern Flicker. I would have walked passed him without noticing. I am really thankful she enjoys hiking and photography as much as I do ... I hate to think of how many great photos would be missed without her great eye.

As for this flicker, he's looking thin.

Swallowtail Time

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

This week we saw a larger number of butterflies. This is a Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly. They grow to be very large, and are simply beautiful. The adult can grow to be 2.5 to up to 3.5 inches across. I have read reports of up to 5 inches. Sometimes they look like a small bird flying across the prairie.
