Finally .. A Kingfisher

This is a male Belted Kingfisher. We have seen a few this summer but we have not been able to capture a photo. I mean, not even a bad photo. Teresa saw this one flying near the pond at Big Woods. I spotted him in a tree that extends over the pond. I am so grateful for this photo. What a cool dude.

Great Blue

We were hiking on the trail along the Miami River when we saw this Great Blue Heron land on the dead tree. It is not much of a tree but it was a great place for her to land.

A Little Blue

As of late we are not seeing many ducks. It was great to carch up with this Mallard on the Miami River. His colors are muted but the blue sure stands out.

Young Wood Duck

We saw two very young Wood Ducks but I only captured one decent photo. I am guessing these two were born this year. Life is dangerous for such young ducks.
