Finally .. A Kingfisher

This is a male Belted Kingfisher. We have seen a few this summer but we have not been able to capture a photo. I mean, not even a bad photo. Teresa saw this one flying near the pond at Big Woods. I spotted him in a tree that extends over the pond. I am so grateful for this photo. What a cool dude.

King Flyer

Well this was different. I could hear this Belted Kingfisher flying along the banks of the Miami River. As she flew into our view it was apparent she did not plan to land so that we could capture a photo .. so I took this photo. I took a few, but this was the only good capture. ❤️

A Fishing King

Teresa was the first to see this Kingfisher over the Great Miami River. I would have missed this photo.

The weather is cooling back off to more normal temperatures. We are not hiking as much but we are still getting out. I miss summer.

One Cool Kingfisher

DSC_2278.jpeg

As we hiked along the Stillwater River this week, I could hear a Belted Kingfisher nearby. When they get going, they seem to be playing tag. When I see them in this game mode, there is normally two or more of them.

I scanned along the rivers edge and in the trees trying to locate them. Finally, I spotted one. He was on our side of the river in a nearby tree. The problem is that he would not hold still. Suddenly, he flew to the other side of the river. I had a clear shot. I captured this photo just before he took off again.

I love how the Kingfisher looks. They are such a cool bird.
