A Hungry Sparrow?

DSC_3151.jpeg

I snapped this photo of this American Tree Sparrow while she was looking for a snack on the ground. So much for the trees.

Nuthatch Continued

DSC_3055.jpeg

Earlier this week I posted a photo of a White-brested Nuthatch. Recall that I was commenting about their grip and talons. Yesterday we were hiking and this nuthatch flew to this brick building and latched on to the brick. Very impressive.

After I published this blog post, I decided I needed to add a second photo I took of this nuthatch as he flew away. It’s not a perfect shot .. in fact, it just happed that I capture it. :)

Flicker!

DSC_2838.jpeg

The Northern Flicker is a larger woodpecker. I don’t know why, but when I see one flying, it takes me a while to identify it. They are unique and I should be quicker .. but I guess I have a mental block.

Dinner Is Served

DSC_2667.jpeg

I love watching birds when they are very focusd on their lunch. Clearly this Red-bellied Woodpecker found some bugs in this tree. I guess he is not vegan.

Pause For A Photo

DSC_2526.jpeg

I saw this young female Downy Woodpecker while hiking earlier this week. She was jumping from branch to branch, tree to tree. She paused just long enough for me to snap this photo. We hiked about 2.5 miles and saw more butterflies than birds. More on that on another day.
