With all the rain and melting snow, the ponds are full. On one of our hikes this week we spotted this Bufflehead on one of these ponds. He was alone but seemed to enjoy the solitude.

We spotted this Bufflehead on one of the ponds at Garbry Big Woods Reserve. It has been a while since we last saw one of these.
This one is a male. I totally missed him but Teresa has a good eye. I blame my miss on his diving habits. He would dive and disappear from sight for long periods of time, then surface for a few minutes before repeating his hunt. Their behavior is well described on wikipedia .. check it out!!
