I have never see a Red-winged Blackbird this late into the season. I think I have mentioned it before but at some point this fall we were not seeing any ... then they seemed to reappear. This was taken this week, October 2024. IT wasa real surprise.

We have seen a few more female Red-winged Blackbirds this week. This is one of the more interesting and detailed photos I have taken of a female red-wing. While the females do not have the bright colors of the males, they certainly have some unique markings.

The top photo is the 1st female Red-winged Blackbird we have see this year. I am sure they are around, but this is the 1st time we have been able to photograph one.
