Scarlet And Black

I posted a photo of the female Scarlet Tanager a few days ago. This is the male. He would not give me a good look for the photo but this is not too bad.

The Other Tanager

Since starting this photo blog, I have posated a few photos of the Scarlet Tanager. Every one of those is of the male. They are this beautiful scsarlet red with black wings. I finally captured a photo of a female. They are YELLOW. How about that. Beautiful bird!

The Other Red Bird

We photographed these two Scarlet Tanager while hiking this past weekend. I have photographed males before, but this was the first time I think I have captured a photo of a female.

Let’s backup a litttle. I shot the 1st and 3rd photo. Teresa took the 2nd photo. They are a beautiful bird.

As for the female … yesterday I shared a photo of a female orchard oriole. I still believe that was correclty identified. That said, the female scarlet tanager looks a lot like the female orchard oriole (to me anyway). The blacks are deeper in the oriole and I see a difference in the beak too. If you disagree, please let me know.
