Osprey

FullSizeRender.jpg

I was really excited when I saw this Osprey flying at Kiser Lake. Their diet is 100% fish, so I should not have been so surprised. When we fist saw her, I thought it was a hawk, but as we watched, and I capture this photo, I could tell we were looking at something different. I have only photographed one other Osprey prior to this photo. Very cool.

Bald Eagles in Ohio

FullSizeRender.jpg

I read a really interesting article in the Urbana Daily Citizen this week. Here is a link:

Ohio’s bald eagle nesting season underway

According to the article, there was only four bald eagles in Ohio in 1979. Today, 286 are nesting in Ohio, and 445 eaglets. That’s so cool.

The photo above is of an eagles nest just south of Piqua. I took this two days ago. I believe we will have young eagles in two to three weeks. Last year this couple produced two offspring. How cool is that.

Brave Hawk or Napping Eagles

I photographed this hawk a couple of days ago while she was hunting over a large open field. There is nothing unusual about this photo, other than the fact that this hawk was hunting about 50 feet from an eagles nest. The last photo is the nest. Clearly, the eagles were not here, but they sound be soon. Brave hawk or napping eagles ...

Bird of prey

FullSizeRender.jpg

We were back outdoors taking photos yesterday. The temperature had climbed to double digits (barely) so it was time. We saw this hawk at least three times, but on the third time, I was finally in a position to capture a decent photo.

I was driving east when I saw her fly across the road in front of me. This was a country road and luck for us, no cars in sight. I pulled forward and looked to the south and there she was .. about 50 feet from me. She turned her head to face me, then just slowly rotated it back toward the south. I snapped off about 10 pictures, then just watched her until she flew away. We didn’t stick around since it was evident she was hunting and I didn’t want to disturb this beautiful creature.
