Teresa captured this one .. beautiful

This was not the best setup for capturing a quality photograph. Here is how it when down: My son was driving. We were making our way through Yellowstone National Park. I was watching for wildife but we were not in a place where we could stop if I spot some cool wildlife. It was every bit as scenic as I remembered it. We were last here many years ago and returned with better gear and hungry for new photography opportunities.

We had not been driving far when I spotted this beautiful Golden Eagle. She perched in the top of nearby tree. I say nearby, but it was across the river from the road. It was a long shot, complicated by the motion of the car.

I always try to get the shot, even when the odds are not good. I put the window down, lifted the camera and started snapping photos. I was shooting at an odd angle. By this point, he was well behind us.

I think the photos came out great .. all things considered.

It’s Good To Forget ... Sometimes

On Monday we decide to head to Grand Lake St. Marys for some hiking. I was also excited to get a few photos. I loaded up and off we went.

Sadly, after we arrived, I realzied I had left my camera at home. We still hiked .. Teresa shot a few photos, but I only shot a couple using my iPhone. Not the experience I was hoping for, but it was nice to be out and the weather was beautiful.

When we started talking about our plans for Tuesday, we decided to go back to the lake, but this time with my camera gear along for the action. We had seen two large eagle nest the day before, and I was excited about the possibilities.

I’ll cut to the photos here:

We saw five different Bald Eagles. The top two photos were taken just off of SR127, just sound of Celina, Ohio. In the second photo, if you look close, you will see two eagles in the nest.

The next photo was shot at Windy Point. It was a very difficult photo given the distance involved, but it turned out to be better than I expected. She flew away when we tried to hike closer.

The last two photos were taken at a nest near Houston, Ohio just off of SR66. Again, two eagles at this nest when we arrived. One flew to a nearby tree for the photo op.

Think about this for a second. That is amazing. It was not long ago that it was rare to see a single bald eagle ... We saw five of them in one morning.

What a great day. I am grateful that I forgot my camera and had to go back a second day. Nature was kind to us.

A Very Sharp Hawk

This is the first time I have photographed a Sharp-shinned Hawk. In fact, I am not sure I have ever seen one around here. I almost missed it due to how well the colors fit in with the trees. What a beautiful bird.

Two Generations In One Tree

Earlier this week we were driving home on SR-185. As we approached the SR-48 crossing, we saw this beautiful Bald Eagle flying near our location. She was so magestic. I was driving, so it was difficult to get a great view.

As we crossed the intersection, we saw her land in a nearby tree, so I pulled over to get a better view. It turns out, there was a juvenile Bald Eagle in the tree where she landed. I captured a photo of each of them. I am always so humbled when we get to observe these amazing creatures. Capturing a photo of a Bald Eagle is special to me. Thank you.
