What A Grip!

DSC_2935.jpeg

I guess the White-brested Nuthatch has the same cool eyes at the Titmouse I posted yesterday.

I love the textures in this photo. There is not as much color, but this Nuthatch brings the color to this scene.

If you have ever wondered how the Nuthatch do their gymnastics in the trees then take a look at her grip on this tree branch. I have always thought the neck as one of the pronouced featrues of the nuthach, but those talons (I guess we call them talons on smaller birds) ... serious.

An Upright Nuthatch

DSC_2452.jpeg

Normally, when I photography a White-breasted Nuthatch it is climbing on the side of a tree, often sideways or upside-down. . This is a great photo of a Nuthatch. ❤️

Update: I was thinking Nuthatch because I saw a few of them at this same spot, but this is not a Nuthatch. It is a Tufted Titmouse. I guess that is he is upright :). I will not change the title, but will acknowledge Dyna Edwards for catching this. Thank you, Dyna.

Pick-Up Sticks

Adjustments.jpeg

Remember the game, ‘Pick-up Sticks’? This nuthatch was never able to pick up this stick. It did not keep him from trying ... for a long time.

Inverted Feeding

I caught this nuthatch grabbing a quick snack. I am amazed at how they climb. I mean I find them upside down on tree limbs most of the time. This is a fun photo!

A Nut!

Adjustments.jpeg

During this recent cold spell, we took a lot of photos near bird feeders. This day was no different. I managed this photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch.

This is a male. You can tell the difference by the color of the crown. The female has a blue-grey crown, while the male has a black crown. .
