Wise, Old Heron

We saw this Great Blue Heron fishing .. or resting. Either way, he did not stick around long once we showed up. I believe this is an older male. Wise and very cool.

The photo did not come out great, but It was great to see him.

Trailing Legs

This is one of my best photos of a Great Blue Heron in flight. She had just taken off, and I was in the right spot, with my camera pointing in the right direction.

The Great Blue has a unique flying style. They have that long neck that they have to deal with, and then those legs .. can’t just tuck those away, so they just let the legs follow, and lead with the neck.

More Detail!!

I had to post this photo of this Great Blue Heron. It so much better than the photo posted recently. This one was not flying nearly as fast, and it was an open lake, so I was able to track and capture a better shot. Love the details!

A Surprise Blue Heron

We were hiking along the Miami River late last week when I saw this beautiful Great Blue Heron flying away. It was a surprise .. I certainly didn’t see her much in advance, but there she was, flying over this small pond. I was going to crop if tighter, but I think this adds more perspective. She is so beautiful and grateful.

Let’s go fishing

I am not sure it’s the same Great Blue Heron, but I have seen one flying over the area frequently. I took this photo early in the morning, near a local pond. Check out those eyes!

Let’s go fishing:). That is her favoite activity. 

I setup this blog a year ago. I have posted around 365 times, and over 370 photos. I have taken many times that number of photographs. I think I am improving ... it’s a learning process, and the more photos I take, the more comfortable I get. It has taken me a while to get comfortable with the big lens. I’m getting better at spotting wildlife, and faster at setting up the shot. 

My goals for the next year ..  I’ll share those soon. I am in the market for a new camera, and a drone. I’m not rushing either. Have a great day.
