Change

I saw a couple quotes about butterflies recently. The first one: “Take time to be a butterfly.” (Gillian Duce).

Why would you want to be like a butterfly? This is the second quote: “If nothing ever changed, there would be no such things as butterflies.” (Wendy Mass).

Butterflies don’t start their live as the beautiful creatures that we love to watch float across the lawn. Change is part of their existance.

I love the fact that we can change. Becoming the best ‘you’ is a process of change. Enjoy the process!!!

This photo: A few weeks back I wrote about the difference between the Viceroy and the Monarch Butterfly. I wanted to share a couple recent Viceroy photos. They may not have the story of the Monarch, but they are still so beautiful.

Big, Beautiful, Swallowtail

DSC_0736.jpeg

I love to watch Swallowtail butterflies. The size, colors and space make this one look like a King Swallowtail Butterfly. Unfortunately the King is not found in this part of the US. They are also even larger than this one. I am not sure about this one.

What I do know is that I love this photo. The bee gives it scale. I’ll just call it a big, beautiful, swallowtail butterfly.

Lost In The Beauty

Adjustments.jpeg

Teresa and I take a very different approach to photography. She tends to see shots like this one that I often miss. I am normally looking for birds, and larger landscapes. See she’s the fine details in the flowers and nature. I think that is why we like to hike .. we see the same thing very differently. That is a good thing .. in my opinion.

I think the cricket is lost. I love the details in this photo. Teresa took this photo in Maui. It’s among the photos I had not shared yet. I love this photo, and the photographer is beautiful too.

Harvest Bell About to Bloom

public.jpeg

I believe this is a Harvest Bell (Gentiana saponaria). I picked up some facts from the PlantSnap Plant Identification app by PlantSnap, Inc.. I have used this app a few times, and it does a good job of identifying plants. I love the colors of this late blooming flower.

“Berula is a cosmopolitan genus of flowering plant in the carrot family, whose species are known as water parsnip, as are some other plants in Apiaceae such as Sium latifolium and Sium suave. It is easily confused with the highly toxic water hemlock. Water parsnip is a widespread aquatic plant found across Eurasia, Africa, North America, and elsewhere. It is a perennial plant forming stolons at the base where it roots in mud, often underwater. It extends hollow stems and umbels of white flowers. The leaves are fernlike and have several narrow to rounded leaflets.”

Spotted Jewelweed

public.jpeg

Also known as Impatiens Capensis is native to this area. You may also find yellow jewelweed around this part of the country.

The bright colors and the pattern caught my eye. I wish the photo was a little shaper. I need to go back and take some more photos of this beauty.
