Just Golden

DSC_0918.jpeg

The weather was perrfect for hiking, so on this day about three weeks ago we hiked to an overlook platform at Stillwater Prairie Reserve. I have never seen that much from this location, but on this day we saw a lot of wildlife. It was mostly birds and butterflies, but wow ... so much beauty. This Goldfinch was actively pollinating. Please Catch That Fly

DSC_1100.jpeg

This is an Eastern Kingbird, a large tyrant flycatcher. I read that there are more than 400 species of these tyrant flycatchers. I wish I could get one of them to catch some of the flies that try to get into our house.

There You Are!

DSC_1019.jpeg

It has been a while since we posted a photo of a cardinal. They are masters of hide-and-seek.

As in most cases, it started with that ‘tink’ call. We were hiking up this grade when we first heard him. It took a few minutes but this time he was not able to hide. Once he was located, we both started snapping photos. The foliage made it a tough shot, but as you can see, the beauty compensated us for our effort. We both captured a few photos with this being the best of them.

The Lady

DSC_0844.jpeg

A few days ago I posted photos of a male Eastern Towhee. A few days ago I saw this this female Eastern Towhee. The photo is not perfect due to some focus issues, but I wanted to share it. The female has less of the deep colors but she is beautiful.

Big, Beautiful, Swallowtail

DSC_0736.jpeg

I love to watch Swallowtail butterflies. The size, colors and space make this one look like a King Swallowtail Butterfly. Unfortunately the King is not found in this part of the US. They are also even larger than this one. I am not sure about this one.

What I do know is that I love this photo. The bee gives it scale. I’ll just call it a big, beautiful, swallowtail butterfly.
